Lecturer impregnates student, denies responsibility

A lecturer at the Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese Ijebu, Dr Oluseyi Adu, and a Dental Nursing student, Mosunmola, are embroiled in a row over who is responsible for the pregnancy that the nursing student is carrying, The Punch reports.

Mosunmola, who is 9 months pregnant, alleged that Adu, an Oral Health Coordinator for the college, was responsible for her pregnancy, adding that they had sex in a hotel sometime in August, 2016.

Mosunmola revealed that she underwent a 3-year course at the college, adding that several lecturers had asked her out before Adu, but she refused. She however agreed to date him after she failed one of his courses. He later passed her.

She said, “When we met at a hotel, we had 3 rounds of sex. He used two condoms for the first two rounds. The third round was, however, flesh-to-flesh. That was when he ejaculated inside me,” she explained.

She later missed her period and when she told Mr. Adu, he gave her a drug, Eprostol, to abort the pregnancy, she refused to take it and he started acting funny. Mosunmola said attempts by Adu’s HOD, dean, and provost to mediate were rebuffed by the lecturer.

The victim said she later approached the Human Rights Office of the Ogun State Ministry of Justice, where a lawyer, one Kolade, called the parties for a meeting.

Adu was reported to have agreed to pay N5,000 feeding allowance per month, in addition to paying N7,000 for ante-natal registration. After paying for two months, Adu reportedly stopped.

She said the lecturer beat her up last month when she confronted him at the college for avoiding her, after reporting him to the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Health, without any result.

In a chat with The Punch, Mr. Adu said: "My brother, that night we met and had fun. She later sent me a text message that she was pregnant and I told her I used a condom." He said before Mosunmola could reach his wife, he quickly reported himself to her and begged for her forgiveness. He is now waiting for a DNA test after she gives birth.
